FRENCH FIREWORKS IN TOP 14 RUGBY ON PREMIER SPORTS THIS WEEKEND
FOUR big games from France’s TOP 14 to enjoy live
TOP 14 rugby is still firing with changes at the top and bottom of the table last weekend after some eye-catching performances and tries despite the rain-soaked conditions - and expect more fireworks in France starting tonight with La Rochelle against new leaders Bordeaux Bègles (live on Premier Sports 2 from 8pm).
Last weekend’s big news saw season-long leaders and double European and TOP 14 Champions Toulouse knocked off the top of the table by Bordeaux Bègles who won 25-9 against Clermont last weekend; while Toulouse were beaten by a hungry Racing 92 team boosted by a sell-out home crowd in Paris and a closed roof
While France’s superstar team get set for their first international test of the Autumn against Argentina this Saturday night at the Stade de France, home fires are still burning across the TOP 14 with seven big matches across the weekend and FOUR of them live on Premier Sports channels.
Premier Sports has live coverage of four big fixtures kicking off with a Friday night spectacle as La Rochelle host new TOP 14 leaders Bordeaux Bègles (live on Premier Sports 2 from 8pm). Saturday afternoon’s double bill ahead of France’s first autumn international fixture at 8pm sees Toulouse against Perpignan (Premier Sports 2 from 1.45pm) followed by Brive’s clash against Racing 92 (Premier Sports 2 from 4pm). Clermont against Toulon on Sunday evening (Premier Sports 1 from 8pm) concludes a packed rugby weekend in France
Ronan O’Gara’s La Rochelle come into their home fixture with the confidence of winning their last three home games in a row despite a disappointing 22-13 loss away last weekend at Perpignan. The hosts sit in 7th in the table and welcome a confident Bordeaux side that have won six in a row for the first time in their history with a bonus-point winning 25-9 win against Clermont last Saturday.
Champions of Europe and France Toulouse, who have won seven games from nine this season, may be without 11 of their top players on international duty but will be looking to bounce back to winning ways after last Sunday’s upset – their second defeat of the season - at a bouncing La Defense Arena in Paris. They play Perpignan who sit second from the bottom having won three and lost six. Last time these two met in TOP 14 back in May 2019 Toulouse won 47-7 but the visitors looking for their first away win of the season, will be boosted by their win last weekend against La Rochelle after losing four in a row prior to that
Racing 92 sent their home crowd of close to 30,000 into party mode in Paris last weekend after a 27-18 win against Toulouse. They travel to Brive who have lost their last four matches in a row and in 10th with three wins and six defeats so far this season. Racing 92 are the opposite – with six wins and three losses after nine rounds.
To wrap up the weekend Sunday night sees a mid-table clash with Clermont in 8th hosting Toulon in 11th. Toulon won against Biarritz last weekend (13-9) but haven’t won on the road this season with losses away from home at La Rochelle, Castres, Perpignan and Toulouse. Their hosts Clermont (won four, lost five), who were soundly beaten by leaders Bordeaux last weekend, have won their last three home games in a row against Pau, Racing 92 and La Rochelle.
